WELCOME TO WEEK 41
Past Your Due Date and Feeling Stuck?
This week, Ema shares six gentle practices to help soften the emotional weight of being past your due date.
Why the Wait Feels So Heavy
Even when you know due dates are only estimates, it’s completely normal to feel frustrated, uncertain or even let down when labour hasn’t started yet. You might feel like you’re in limbo; raw, quiet, and constantly on edge.
This week is about softening that space. These small rituals are here to remind you that your body and baby are already in communication, even if it feels still.
Oxytocin flows best when you feel safe and at ease. Simple things like soft lighting, warm baths, gentle music or quiet reading can help regulate your nervous system.
Try this:
Dim the lights, rest often, and make space feel nurturing, not clinical.
Light movement helps relieve tension and supports your body’s natural readiness. Think slow, circular, flowing movements.
Ideas to try:
- Walks outside
- Floating in water
- Hip circles on a birth ball
- Gentle prenatal yoga or stretching
Hands-on care can soothe nerves and help your system soften and open. These techniques don’t promise labour but they help you feel more supported in the meantime.
Supportive options include:
- Acupuncture
- Massage
- Osteopathy
- Reflexology
Journaling or writing to your baby can be a beautiful way to shift focus from frustration to connection. It helps ground you in the relationship that’s already forming.
Prompt to try:
What do I want them to know as they enter the world?
These hours or days won’t come again. Even in the restlessness, there are moments to savour like sunlight on your skin, a quiet cup of tea, or a slow float in the ocean or bath.
Let yourself pause. There’s no rush.
Sometimes a quiet reminder is all you need to anchor yourself. Ema’s favourite for this week:
“My baby will come at the perfect time. I trust the wisdom of my body.”
Say it. Write it. Whisper it to yourself when your mind starts spiralling.
