WELCOME TO WEEK 42
How to Have the Induction Conversation Your Way
This week, Ema shares gentle, practical guidance for navigating conversations around induction with confidence, calm, and a sense of personal agency.
Why This Week Can Feel So Loud
Reaching 42 weeks can trigger a wave of external pressure. You might be hearing questions like “Have they booked your induction yet?” or “Aren’t you worried something’s wrong?”
But being past your due date does not mean something is wrong. It simply means your baby and body are still communicating in their own time.
This week is about helping you feel informed, grounded, and supported, whether you choose to wait, accept induction, or explore your options.
Medical teams often follow protocols around timing, but it’s okay to ask questions. Knowing whether induction is being suggested based on policy, medical risk, or something else can help you decide what feels right for you.
Ask:
- Is this based on my personal health or a routine timeline?
- What are the benefits and risks of waiting a few more days?
Unless there’s a clear medical reason not to, you’re allowed to ask for time to think. Saying “Can I sleep on it and come back to you tomorrow?” is a reasonable and respectful response.
Giving yourself a pause can help calm the nervous system and bring clarity.
You are the one living in your body. If something doesn’t feel right, or does, it’s okay to trust that. Your instinct matters, even when the path isn’t straightforward.
Take a moment to tune into how your body feels, not just what’s being said.
Practice saying “I’d like to know my options” out loud. This one sentence can open the door to a more balanced conversation. Induction is one option, not the only one. Ask what other supportive approaches are available to you.
You might hear about:
- Stretch and sweeps
- Natural induction methods
- Additional monitoring
Surround yourself with people who respect your autonomy. Whether that’s your partner, midwife, doula or trusted friend, it makes a difference to feel backed emotionally, not just medically.
You are still in your power, even now.
