WELCOME TO WEEK 29

Uncomfortable After Every Meal?

This week, Ema shares five gentle, natural ways to ease the bloat and feel more at ease in your body.

That Bloated, Gassy Feeling? You’re Not Alone

Many women experience bloating and trapped gas in the third trimester, especially as digestion slows and your baby starts taking up more room.

It’s uncomfortable, but it’s also manageable.

Large meals can overwhelm your digestive system, especially late in pregnancy. Breaking meals into smaller portions gives your gut more space to do its job.

Try this:
Shift from 3 large meals to 5–6 smaller ones spaced through the day. Eat slowly and stop before you feel full.

Apple cider vinegar and lemon tea is a simple, natural way to stimulate digestion and reduce bloating. Bitters like dandelion root tea can also help your body process meals more efficiently.

Note:
Always choose pregnancy-safe herbal options and check with your healthcare provider if you’re unsure.

A short, gentle walk after meals helps move food through your system and relieve trapped wind. It doesn’t need to be far, even 5–10 minutes can support digestion.

Try this:
Take a slow lap around your home or garden after lunch or dinner. Stay upright and move gently.

Bitter-tasting foods like kale and dandelion greens encourage digestive enzyme production, which can help prevent bloating before it starts.

Options include:

  • Kale
  • Rocket (arugula)
  • Dandelion greens
  • Radicchio

Include a handful with lunch or dinner to support smoother digestion.

Lying on your left side encourages digestion and can help gas pass more comfortably. It’s also the optimal resting position for circulation in pregnancy.

Try this:
Lie down with a pillow between your knees and one behind your back. Take slow belly breaths and give your body time to settle.
